The only organization in the History of Trinidad and Tobago that caterers for the spiritual and social aspect of all family life is The Family-Focus Broadcasting Network. Here is a brief overview of our journey.
The pioneer programme was ‘Sounds Glorious’ birthed on Wednesday, 13th February 1991, hosted by Margaret Elcock, a woman with a heart for God and a love for gospel music.
Aired on Wednesday nights from 10:00pm – 12:00 midnight. Within a few months an additional hour was given, making for a 9:00pm start. Many looked forward to the refreshing mix of great gospel music and ministry. The demand for Sounds Glorious made way for the extension to Sunday mornings 5:00am – 9:00am and Sunday evenings 10:00pm-12:00 midnight.
Within the first year, new programs were added to the radio ministry, ‘The Bright Side of Midnight’ bringing together Gospel DJ’s who played their music from midnight Sundays to 5:00am Mondays. The cast included Patrick S. Dyer, Adrian Alexander, Marisa Elcock (now Thongs), Anthony ‘Blow Tops’ John, Patrick Mohammed, Elliot Skinner, Dennis Mitchell ‘The Double Anointing‘ Fern Chase and Jamie Thomas, Natasha Long and Avonelle Hector (now Joseph). They all “cut their teeth” on the Bright Side of Midnight programme and today most of them have now moved on to 98.1 FM. Others have travelled the globe doing what they do best, as established Announcers, a long way from those days of early bloopers.
April 1992 saw exponential increase; with the inception of ‘Family Focus’ a daily three [3] three hour magazine programme aired on Radio Trinidad now renamed ‘Inspirational Radio’. This name change was a direct result of the gospel influence on the station.
Family Focus, the brainchild of Margaret Elcock, was broadcast live from 1:00pm – 4:00pm Mondays to Fridays, facilitating Ministers from various Full-Gospel Ministries who ministered the word of God. Some of the original Ministers included Rev. Peter Regis, the late Dr. Turnel Nelson, Dr. Stephen Mohammed and Pastor Nelson Sammy among others.
Today the Family-Focus Broadcasting Network has now acquired its own broadcast frequency 98.1 fm, spreading its wings and impacting the lives of families both nationally and globally, through its unique programming.
