FOREVER YOUNG
Saturday October 5th, 2005 saw the birth of a programme on Isaac 98.1 FM, catering exclusively for that often sidelined group in our society, our senior citizens.
This programme was conceived to ensure that our seniors are accorded the respect and dignity they deserve, to give them a voice and to provide features which reflect their interests and their needs.
Hosted by Nicole Larsen and Jenny Roderique, the programme, Forever Young, has attracted a listenership that includes those, who by no stretch of the imagination, can qualify as Forever Young Uns but who jostle with them for inclusion on the programme. Feedback from all age groups suggest that the mix provided each Saturday is certainly appreciated.
"Forever Young Uns" get a chance to call in, send their greetings, air their views and pass on nuggets of wisdom gained from living in this society and from life in general. Then there is the ever popular interview segment. Topics covered have included: consumer rights and responsibilities, making a will, elder abuse, planning for retirement including health issues such as Alzheimer’s and prostate problems.
Recently the programme has expanded to include a segment of favourite gospel classics, and ‘The Quiz‘ which tests the Forever Young Uns’ knowledge of local history and the Bible.
Not only are Forever Young Uns celebrated on air, but off air as well, as happens when the Forever Young family gets together at least twice per year. The Mother’s Day function now an annual event that is much look forward to. But undoubtedly, the high point of the Forever Young calendar is the Christmas Brunch that has taken place for the last three years.
Nicole and Jenny envisage hosting other activities that would assure Forever Young Uns that they are a special part of the Family Focus Brooadcasting Network. The bottom line is that Forever Young intends to stay relevant, informative, entertaining and an indispensable part of the Saturday routine of all listeners.
Forever Young is more than just a radio program but a vibrant and active outreach to a group that must not be forgotten. It is hoped that all Forever Young Uns, wherever they might be, can truly say, “We intend to stay Forever Young.”
